United Nations General Assembly

The 2012 UN General Assembly Annual Omnibus Resolution on Oceans and Law of the Sea (see paragraph 199), noted the efforts of the Sargasso Sea Alliance - led by the Government of Bermuda - to raise awareness of the ecological significance of the Sargasso Sea.  This language was the result of a joint proposal from South Africa, UK and US.  

This language was also included in the 2013 Resolution (see paragraph 215), the result of a joint proposal from the US, UK and Bahamas, and in the 2014 Resolution (see paragraph 231), as well as in the Resolutions in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
