About Our Work

Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary

Bermuda is strategically situated between humpbacks’ northern feeding grounds and their southern calving and breeding grounds.  In September 2012, NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) and the Bermuda Ministry of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure Strategy signed a Sister Sanctuary Agreement to cooperate on scientific and educational programs to better protect the endangered North Atlantic humpback whale between the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and Bermuda.  This agreement follows a signed Letter of Intent between the US and Bermuda in June 2011.  Click here for NOAA's Fact Sheet.
