Effective enforcement of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) is an obstacle shared by governments and the marine conservation community worldwide; it is not a challenge unique to the Sargasso Sea. 

The Sargasso Sea Alliance is assessing capacity needs for a future enforcement regime of the area and continues dialogue with other groups working hard to identify stringent and cost-effective high seas enforcement regimes.
