Hamilton Declaration II signed
On October 19th, 2026, governments came together at Government House, Bermuda to sign the Hamilton Declaration II on Collaboration for the Conservation of the Sargasso Sea (Hamilton Declaration II). The Hamilton Declaration II was initially signed by Bermuda, the UK, the Azores, Monaco, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Learn more.
Socio-Ecosystem Diagnostic Analysis
The Sargasso Sea Commission is currently implementing two projects to strengthen the stewardship of the Sargasso Sea, the 'SARGADOM' project, funded by the French Facility for Global Environment, and the Common Oceans Programme Sargasso Sea project, funded by the Global Environment Facility.
The aim of these projects is to create a socio-ecosystem diagnostic analysis (SEDA) for the Sargasso Sea, laying out its ecological and economic importance, as well as the threats it faces. This will be the basis for a strategic action programme (SAP) for the area's conservation, which will be agreed by Sargasso Sea stakeholders. Read our GEF and FFEM project products here.
